This collection, which documents the building career of H.J. Carr in Atlanta and its environs from 1909-1932, contains photos of mostly commercial buildings including hotels, office buildings, garages, a theatre, a court house, manufacturing buildings, a Y.M.C.A., educational facilities, railroad facilities and one dwelling (under construction). The architects involved on these projects include G. Lloyd Preacher, Ivey & Crook, and Neel Reid. Photographers include Edgar Orr, Rogers & Farmer, Fishbaugh & Lee, Francis E. Price, and Reeves Studio.

Harry James Carr was born in Rockingham, N.C. in 1878, entered the construction business in 1894 and incorporated H.J. Carr & Co. in 1909. He built mostly commercial buildings, but he did build several private homes including one for Henry Heinz on Ponce de Leon Ave. and a home for Asa Candler, Jr. on Lullwater Parkway, both in Atlanta.
